It was easy when I moved across the country last year. I wanted to become a minimalist and get rid of all of my stuff. I was only packing for myself. There was not a lot I needed aside from underwear and socks…
Now I am about to go for round two. This time everything my kids own is coming with me. What is a person to do? What are the best ways?
The best I can break it down is into the following options:
1) Movers say it will cost about $7800 to load everything and bring it door to door. I would then need to ship my car for about another $1000. The family could then fly for another $800 (already paid) and we’d be done.
2) I could put a pod in the driveway, load it in 6 hours (Beverly Hills only allows to be parked that long), and send it by truck that way for about $4000. Who knows if it will all fit? I could then drive across the country with the family to get the car out here too. That would cost around $6000 all in.
3) I could ship only the large items across the country (who knows what that will cost). Then pull a 6x12 foot U-haul trailer with my family and the balance of our stuff for around $3000 all in (aside from the freight).
What would you do? What would Viv do? Please comment if you have any solutions. Too many decisions.
